Cryptids of Maine is a series of original art prints and postcards illustrated by me celebrating the state’s most fascinating folklore. The back of each piece tells the story of each cryptid researched and written by me – allowing the legends to live on.

The hair-raising tale of the Little Wild Man was published in the “Thomaston Journal” in 1855. While chopping wood in eastern Waldoboro, J.W. McHenri was startled by a terrible scream. He eventually captured the source of the shriek: a small humanoid covered in black fur. McHenri took pity on the hapless creature and offered him dried nuts, which he ate readily. The article ends with an invitation to view “this curious specimen of human nature.” His ultimate fate remains a mystery.
