Cryptids of Maine is a series of original art prints and postcards illustrated by me celebrating the state’s most fascinating folklore. The back of each piece tells the story of each cryptid researched and written by me – allowing the legends to live on.
The Kiwakwa dates back to 19th-century lore, rooted in Wabanaki tribal tales of the Northeast. Kiwakwa translates to “walks about the woods.” According to legend, the creepy cryptid was once a man whose heart froze due to grave wrongdoing. This triggered a chilling transformation: The man became a haggard, white-haired, ice-hearted giant with an unending appetite for human flesh. If you hear a shrill cry in the forests of northern Maine, be sure to make it home before dinner time.
Postage is included for continental United States orders.
